The man said: “We have two kids together. My wife got sick just after our son was born and now is in need of a kidney transplant.
“We checked with her relatives and none were a match or a viable donor.”
After getting tested, he was thrilled to hear he was a match, but doctors said they wanted to do another test due to “HLA tissue test results”.
He continued: “Then the results came in I was shocked and confused. The doctor explained that because of how DNA information is passed down through generations a parent to a child could have at least a 50% match.
“Siblings could have a 0-100% match. It was rare to have a high match as husband and wife.”
The doctor then revealed he and his wife had an “abnormally high match percentage”.
The husband was shocked, having met his wife by chance eight years ago.
Heartbroken, the father continued: “I don’t know what do do moving forward but I know it may be wrong.
“She is my wife and the mother of our kids. This post is probably going to get removed but it is all true.”
Viewers of the post were shocked: “I mean at this point you are married with children already can’t take that back so don’t see much point in blowing worlds up I guess.”
Another commenter said: “It’s a really peculiar situation but there’s no shame in this. Even if the current kids aren’t as healthy as they otherwise could be. It’s no one’s fault.”
One commenter pointed out that as the couple already has children, they should just keep being happy and continue being parents together.
In 2019, an expecting couple was shocked to learn that they were half siblings after taking a DNA test.
Taking to Reddit to explain the situation and desperately ask for advice, the man claimed: “My wife and I have recently discovered that we share the same dad.
“We have been together for eight years and married earlier this year. We own our own home and we’re expecting our first child in March 2020.”
Many Reddit users sympathised with the couple, with one commenting: “If you both still love each other, stay together. If you want to keep the child, keep the child.”
