President Joe Biden thinks conservative firebrand Marjorie Taylor Greene can be an asset for Democrats in a Republican-controlled House.
“You know, a little bit more Marjorie Taylor Greene and a few more, you’re gonna have a lot of Republicans running our way,” he said to laughter during remarks at House Democrats’ 2023 Issues Conference on Wednesday evening.
“Isn’t she amazing?” he continued, smiling. “Whew!”
The Georgia Republican, who yelled “liar” during Biden’s State of the Union Address, previously promoted the QAnon conspiracy theory and has made a slew of bigoted and offensive remarks, including showing support on social media for executing high-profile Democrats.
Biden couldn’t resist making note of her error.
“I shouldn’t digress, probably,” Biden said, before adding, “Well, the interesting thing is that fentanyl they took came during the last administration.”
Biden encouraged those gathered at the conference to work on both sides of the aisle.
“MAGA Republicans” won’t get on board with Democrats’ priorities, he said. “But that leaves a lot of Republicans that are still left,” he said.
“Republicans can help make a significant majority in some of these things,” he said, noting that several of the administration’s accomplishments, including the $1.2 trillion infrastructure package, were passed on a bipartisan basis.
“It’s hard as hell, I acknowledge,” he said.
He argued that both parties should agree on protecting Medicare and Social Security, recalling the moment during his State of the Union Address when he baited heckling Republicans into saying they wouldn’t cut the entitlements.
“I’ve been to a lot of State of the Unions, but I never quite saw one like that,” he said.
